Will Exchange 2003 SP2 work correctly in a Windows 2008 Domain/Forest Functional Level AD RRS feed

Answers

  • In your scenario, I would make a plan as follow (with backup between each important step to garantee rollback):

    - raise domain & forest to 2003, add the W2008 as a DC/GC

    - once replication is ok, move all exchange RUS and offline adress book settings to the new W2008 dc (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/319065)

    - check if you can create new mailbox and if they receive smtp addresses normally.

    - add the W2012 as DC/GC.

-once replication is checked, you can start demoting the W2003 DC.

    - after all W2003 are demoted, raise domain/forest to W2008.

    - check if you can create new mailbox and if they receive smtp addresses normally.

    that should get you throught.

note: I would not advise to raise higher than that, or to update the sysvol to DFS, until you migrate out of EXchange 2003.
