Unable to connect Configuration Manager console RRS feed

  • Question

  • Experts, I was trying to connect configuration manager console (2012 R2 CU2). It stays in a hung state, this has happened in the past and the only fix was to restart the site server.

It doesn't matter which machine I use I cannot logon to the console, other users can logon and connect. I have tried multiple devices and virtual devices with my user name. I have looked at the log files and I have a sample of the log here.

Please note i was adding to a collection when this locked up, I was using the right click tools when the session froze and locked.

  • Try restarting the WMI service on the server hosting the SMS Provider which is most likely your site server.

  • Hello.

    So to summarise.

    - Other users can open the console and connect without any issue

    - Regardless of the computer you use or the console installtion you use, so long as its done with your username the console freezes?

So it's interresting you need to reboot the SCCM WMI provider (Which is installed onto your primary site server by default). Do you mean once you try to connect with your username (which never works) it freezes for all users at that point?

    - Could you please enable verbose adminui logging as share the log with me (zipped) - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633406.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

    - Could you please share all the logs in your Site Server SCCM Install Logs directory (zipped up)

  • Thanks everyone for responding, but to be clear the issue is I cannot connect to the console  it hangs trying to connect. All other users that use the console can connect. I tried on multiple devices and with the same hung state, it never fails out and says unable to connect, it just continuously attempts to connect.

I used AQT to query if my account is locked in SQL and it only returns the AQT connected session for my user id.

I have a small chunk of the log file that is trying to point to the local workstation but it is not a local device issue.

  • I wanted to thank you both for helping me with this issue.

FOR THE RECORD THE WMI RESTART WAS THE FIX.

    Thank you so much,

    VariableLogik.

  • How many consoles do you have connecting?

You may want to consider bumping up the WMI memory limit on the site server if this happens on a regular basis.
