WSUS and Remote SCE 2007 Console RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have ROM2007/SCE2007 environment. ROM2007 and Remote SCE 2007 consoles are configured on Service provider side. Everything is configured and works perfectly.

I use the Remote SCE 2007 console for applying the WSUS patches. Normally Remote SCE 2007 console is for one customer. For second customer I suppose that I have to connect with other Remote SCE 2007 console and to apply the patches separately on that customer.

The question is: How I can apply the patches on multiple customers? Do I have to connect separately on every customer with SCE 2007 console? How this issue is solved ?

    Thanks

  • Hi Tom,

You are correct. You should deploy a separate SCE server for every customer.

To connect to the remote SCE console, you can use the remote web workplace (RWW) - a web portal to connect to the console of the remote customer machines.  Deploying the website on the SCE server will give an available path to connect to the customer environment.

  • Hi Yog,

Thanks for your answer. It hoped that SCE 2007 and ROM 2007 have possibility to manage WSUS patches to the multiple customers but it seems is not possible.

Actually I wanted to know is it possible WSUS on the SCE 2007 to be managed from the upstream WSUS server but I found in SCE_Migration.doc in the section "Migrating a Complex WSUS Installation" this:

“….The Essentials 2007 management server does not support functioning as an upstream or downstream server in a WSUS topology. Also, the server on which you install Essentials 2007 is a downstream server, during the upgrade process it will configured to synchronize directly from Microsoft Update.

If you wish to replace a complex WSUS installation with Essentials 2007 and you are managing fewer than 30 servers and 500 clients, first consolidate your WSUS installation to a single server and then proceed with the installation of Essentials 2007...”

I hope that in the next versions this will be resolved.
