Is it safe to clean up old '.log' files within the DPM_SQL_PROTECT folder? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Have searched extensively for the answer to this, but have had no joy... hoping it will be an easy question for you all.

I've recently started a new role and have inherited a DPM solution that is used to protect SQL databases. I'm unfamiliar with the product having not used it before.

I've read that when DPM takes SQL Server Transaction Log backups it dumps these to the same drive as the actual SQL Server Transaction logs, within the DPM_SQL_PROTECT folder (and subfolders).

I'm getting storage limit alerts for one particular drive, and there are lots of old DPM '.log' files there, spanning back a couple of months. I'm imagining that DPM should be clearing these down, but it doesn't appear to be doing so.

Is anyone able to tell me whether I'm safe to delete these myself? Extra gratitude given if you can point me at some official documentation stating this!

    Thanks

    Andy
