Distribution Point manual installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all..

    I need to know if i can install a Distribution Point directly with an installer file of the media of SCCM.  For example for Management Point we have the mp.msi, is there a similar installer for Distribution Point? or some other way to install a DP not using the SCCM Console?

  • Even if you could manually install, you've still got a connection error that would prevent it from functioning correctly so that's just a symptom. You need to address the actual issue where which is connectivity over the required ports from your site server to the DP. Azure or no Azure, the site server must be able to communicate with the DP both during installation and after.

  • Is there a way? Probably. Is it supported? No. Just like manually using mp.msi is not supported or sufficient to actually install an MP.

    What exactly are you trying to do?

  • Hi,

    I also have the same doubts, why do we need to install a DP not using the SCCM console, we should better follow the steps as the article mentioned:

  • I started looking for another installation method, because actually i am not able to install a DP in a server that was created in Azure.  That was the requirement of infrastructure team, i am not sure at all if an standard dp is the best option or why it was created in Azure.  But actually i have been trying to install this DP and always get this error:

    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\SERVER.domain.abc.com\root\SCCMDP. Error = 0x800706BA    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER    11/20/2018 9:26:09 AM    14508 (0x38AC)

    I have included in Local Administrators the accounts, also installed manually the IIS with the requirements of technet library.  All ports that are needed are opened.

    I dont know if i am forgetting something to be configured....

    Erik Quintero Thank you and Regards!
