New User context based on AD MemberOf attribute RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there a way to use AD memberOf property as one of FASTSearchContextProperties value??

I don't see this memberOf attribute from attribute selection inside user profile property.

    TIA

  • Hello alc97,

According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh147513.aspx memberOf is one of the default user profile properties. Maybe Yaroslav Pentsarkskyy post on adding new properties to use for the context can shed some light on your problem as it describes how to make new properties available for the user context.

  • Hi Mikael,

    Thank you for the reply.

Inside Manage User Profile Properties in Central Admin, there is no mapped attribute assigned to SPS-MemberOf.  The available selections for multi-value property are as follows:

    • (M)accountNameHistory
    • (M)altSecurityIdentities
    • (M)businessCategory
    • (M)carlicense
    • (M)departmentNumber
    • (M)carLicense
    • (M)description ...

I can't see AD memberOf properties (AD groups where the user belongs to) inside the available selection. I expect that upon creating new user context, I could select some AD groups.

For testing purpose, I added SPS-MemberOf to FASTSearchContextProperties, populated random Job title and Department for some test users using "Active Directory Users and Computers", and ran the user synchronization. When adding new user context, I saw  my random job titles inside "MemberOf" Available list. And I saw the same list when clicking "Ask Me About" button. It seems to me that the list are shared among SPS-Responsibility (Ask Me About) and SPS-MemberOf. Can I get a list of AD groups instead??

Btw, I don't see any mapped attribute assigned to other multi value user property.

  • Hi,

I did investigate this a bit and I found no reference to the memberOf field either.I suggest posting this in the general SP2010 group to see if someone knows how to get the memberOf field synchronized properly.
