Server Layout and Implementation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a few questions. I am planning a server for an education environment and need some tips. My Plans are to start out with one Domain Controller, an and exchange server, a file server, and a print server and an application server. How many domain controllers should I implement, and What version of exchange does anyone recommend for starting out? as always thank you for your help!

  • It really depends on the size of the environment... some basics:

    • Best practice is to use at least two DCs in a Active Directory Domain
    • Are there multiple sites where you want to use it? If there are, are the connections slow? If they are, you should but another DC on the other site(s) as well.
    • Do you need high availability? If you do, do multiple DCs
    • With Exchange, I'd go with the 2013

You should really, really read some best practices on Active Directory before the actual implementation...
