  • Hi Nagendra,

when we create a site using Central Admin console it basically creates site folder under "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories" folder and this way it creates site in IIS.

At the time of site creation from CA, we have filled application pool name , site name and application pool account name so during site creation process IIS creates application pool with the name and account we have entered in CA, Web site folder under Web sites.

IIS is a platform to stand MOSS site, it contains all required ASP.NET information to run SharePoint site.

In addition from IIS we can tune performance of the site in very basic step.

  • Hi,

There will be nothing happening at IIS when you create a site collection or subsite.

These informations and data will be inturn stored at database.

You can perform other operation like virtual directory creation, applying certificates etc at IIS.

I hope this will help you out.

    Thanks,

    Rahul Rashu

  • Hi,

Please clarify if you are creating a webApplication or site collection?

When you are creating a webapplication MOSS will automatically create a website in IIS.

A folder with same name will be created under virtual directories folder.

I hope this will help. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

    Thanks,
