Multiple Management points - field distribution points (2012) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello:

I have a design question for ConfigMgr 2012:

If we have remote distribution points in the field all part of the same primary site at headquarters, and if we make those DPs also management points - will the clients be smart enough to talk to their local management point (based on network IP addresses or subnet range or possibly boundary groups) or will the selection of a management point not be deterministic?

The clients will all be in the same forest and potentially in the same OU.  They are part of different AD sites.

    Thank you,

    Mustafa

  • Hi,

In SCCM 2012 the MP is selected automatically and randomly, Not based on Boundaries/Boundary Groups. So it will not select the closest MP it will choose one randomly.

  • I concur with Jorgen. The only reason for multiple MPs in 2012 is availability and cross-forest scenarios.
