Word 2013 cannot open file because the format does not match the file extension RRS feed

    I have just transferred a couple of thousand files from my lap top to my desktop.  Both run windows 8.1

    The files files have bee created in wood 2007 or word 2010. My desktop now has Word 2013, and it will not recognize the docx extension - file format does not match file extension.  Anyone have any ideas??

    This would usually only happen if the originals were .doc, .dot, .docm,  .dotx or .dotm files and someone changed their extensions. Does your Office installation open docx files created in Word 2013? If not, perhaps the Office installation is faulty. In that case, try repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel).
