off site backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, i have dpm 2010 installed at a site with a single domain.  all servers are backed up.

I want to be able to backup this server up to a different site across the internet that is in a different domain (not trusted).  So i suppose my first question is, is this possible?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

Across the internet via VPN, yes this is possible. Please keep in mind though that name resolution will need to be rock solid across this VPN and that the minimal bandwidth is 512Kbps.

  • Hello,

I am not aware of any walkthrough documentation that steps you setting up a DPM deployment that also incorporates a VPN, DOD, Ipsec or Direct Access.
If you have two sites that belong to the same domain, and the link between the two has decent bandwidth, and the name resolution is good (ping back and forth via name works), then your DPM deployment should be ok. Personally I'd set up two DPM servers. One for each site and setup Primary\Secondary protection across the link to replicate after hours. Of course the completion of this synch job will hinge on the bandwidth between the two sites. If you have the minimal bandwidth required (512Kbps) and you are synching 6TB of data then prepare for the job to take a while.
