How to disable update notifications for Power Query?

    Question

  • Is there a way to disable the notification of available updates for Power Query? Command line switch on install, anything?

    Thanks!

  • There is no way to hide the notification, though I believe the most recent version will annoy you less often than previous ones.

    Well of course. This is used in a corporate enviroment where software/updates are controlled and deployed. A way to disable "check for updates" would be desirable.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • it was included in the Power Query version released in September 2014. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Power Query for Excel DisableUpdateNotification dword 1 will disable the update notification.

  • If this reg key is in fact real and works, it's a bit ambiguous.

    I'm assuming "Microsoft Power Query or Excel" is a key, and the DisableUpdateNotification is a Dword under the new "Microsoft Power Query" for Excel key. Like below...

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Power Query for Excel]
    "DisableUpdateNotification"=dword:00000001

    and not this way round....

    A  Dword entry called "Microsoft Power Query for Excel DisableUpdateNotification" underneath the "Microsoft" key.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft]
    "Microsoft Power Query for Excel DisableUpdateNotification"=dword:0000001

  • Command-line we use to disable updates and also not send usage data: msiexec.exe /i PBIDesktop_x64.msi REBOOT=ReallySuppress /qn ACCEPT_EULA=1 DISABLE_UPDATE_NOTIFICATION=1 ENABLECXP=0
