Reverse proxy and Office web app server removals. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

One of our customer is currently in Hybrid Skype for Business environment. Currently, they have some users hosted on-premise and some are online. They have reverse proxy and Office web app servers hosted on-premise for PPT presentations and meeting redirection.

    Questions:

    1. After we moved all the users to online, do we still need reverse proxy and Office web app server or will it be taken care by cloud servers?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Martin,

    Thank you for your inputs.

It sounds like we can point our external DNS records to online and there is no need to keep reverse proxy and edge in on-premise. We can just go ahead and decommission these roles, right?

    Please advise.

  • Hi SBHV,

Once all users are moved online providing these roles were used with the Skype for Business server on premises only they can be decommissioned. SfB Online provides this for sfb online users.

Once all users are moved to online and you are ready to decommissioned the SfB server on premises you also need to update your External DNS records to point to sfb online only and not to the on premise sfb edge and reverse proxy server.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Martin

  • That is correct , once the users are moved and the  records are all pointed to external then we dont need the Office web app on prem and reverse proxy unless and untill the same reverse proxy serve for some other application than Lync , skype for business.

  • Hi SBHV,

Welcome to post in our forum.

Regarding this issue, I agree with others.

After you migrated users to SFB online, then SFB online will provide the service for your SFB users.

As a supplement, the following article is about migrating of Skype for Business Hybrid Environment to Skype for business Online, please refer tohttps://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/praj/2016/03/25/migration-of-skype-for-business-hybrid-environment-to-skype-for-business-online/

    Hope this helpful to you.
