Transfer protected computers and upgrading agents from DPM 2007SP1 to DPM2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Have now read quite a few post about this and just want to clarify best approach.

Have about 35 servers all with Agent 2.0.8864.0 currently protected by server SERVER1 running DPM 2007SP1. Have a new DPM2010 running on SERVER2. What is the best way to redirect and upgrade these agents without restarting to many times?

    Regards,

  • We've just been through this process - because you are at version 2.0.8864.0 you should not need a restart of servers where the agent is installed. What we did:

    1. Install the agent using from the protection agents directory on DPM 2010 and run the setdpmserver command to point the agent to the DPM 2010 server (should not require a reboot - if the agent won't upgrade then uninstall, ignoring a prompt for a restart and install the DPM 2010 agent)

    2. On the new DPM 2010 server use the install agent option in the management console to attach the client agents that now have the DPM 2010 agents installed

    3. Configure protection.

    Gotchas:

Look out for restart pending states on servers if patches have been applied previously

On some Windows 2003 protected servers we still had to schedule one restart after the 2007 agent uninstall

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks Danny for your reply. Will try the same path and hopefully no restarts are necessary.
