Migrating to Config Manager 2012. Should we ditch our seconday site for a PXE enabled distribution point? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All!

I am hoping for a bit of advise. We are planning our first migration from CM07 to CM12 and want to take advantege of some of the benifites the new flat hierachy has to offer. We are trying to determine if we should do away with the idea of having a seconday site at our second largest office.

The office that currently has the secondary site server has about 170 computers. Our one part-time IT guy will  only reimage computers at that location. Also, we will of course continue to deply updates to that location during "Patch Tuesday!!" and of courses occasional software distribution.

My question is, since the PXE service point has been integrated in CM12 distribuiton points can we get away with just having one PXE enabled DP at that office thus doing away with a seconday site?. Just to give an idea of the big picture this is what the rest of the envirotment looks like

Corporate location: 1 Primary Site Server (Virtual Machine) and has 197

12 small branch office: Each with less then 10 computers

    Thanks

    Phil Balderos
