hardware inventory is old, some client not sending the inventory RRS feed

  • Hi,

    there are few clients which not sending the Hw inventory,

    they get stuck at below line, i tried to execute same query in wmi and it is taking forever 

    tried reinstalling sccm agent .. no luck

    tried rebuilding wmi repository ... no luck

    last hw scan showing : 9/15/2019 4:31 PM

  • You can see from your log that the hw inventory never completes. As such you need to review the event viewer logs for more details.

  • Check if the BITS service is running and on automatic startup.
    On client PC, open InventoryAgent.log to see if reports were sent to MP.
    On client PC, open CcmMessaging.log to see if payload was successful.
    On MP Server, open MP_Hinv.log to see if MP send the .MIF to the Site Server.
    On Site Server, open dataldr.log to see if the transaction completed successfully.
    On SCCM Console, open SMS_INVENTORY_DATA_LOADER for more details on client PC.
    Trigger a manual hardware inventory cycle and go through inventory flow.
    Wait for SCCM go to through backlogs

    This is rarely a good idea and generally causes more harm than good. Unless you have specific evidence that WMI has an issue, this is actually a bad idea.

    That's really where the log file ends?

    The last class in the log looks to be Win32_Process. Is there a reason you are inventorying this class in the first place (it's not default)? Have you tried removing this from hardware inventory? My guess here is that querying that class on the system is problematic and querying this class has little value anyway.

    Another oddity in the above log is that the time went backwards for portions of it. Was the system in a timezone that switched from DST to standard time or move across time zones?

  • The last class in the log looks to be Win32_Process. Is there a reason you are inventorying this class in the first place (it's not default)? 

    now i am searching for reasons why this was enabled in first place ... any hints to find out why this was enabled, and what will be the consequence if i disable this ?   ..

  • You are not ending at Process, you are ending at Win32_ServerFeature. 

    It just so happens that you cut and paste ended at Win32_process. 

    Look at your log file again. The first line is the last thing you tried to inventory and the second is you starting over.

    First I would disabled the Win32_process as that will collect a lot of details. 

    Secondly, I would review the event viewer for more details as to what is happening at the time.

  • Hi Jason,

    so i am responsible for SCCM for Server environment, and aout of 6 K servers , around 300 servers show hardware inventory as blank, or the date is older than example 15 days

    we have server 2008, 2012, 2016, and few 2019

  • But that doesn't mean this issue is the root cause on all of those systems. Have you confirmed that this is the issue on the others?

    Whether or not this is a widespread issue or a local issue may have significance here.

    For further information, please help check the LocationServices.log, Inventoryagent.log, CcmMessaging.log on the client, and the MP_hinv.log on the MP, and the Dataldr.log on the site server.

  • I tried running the query "select * from Win32_ServerFeature" on server which does not report HW inventory, and it is taking forever and does not return any value,

    on good server the value is returned in a fraction of second , so i think the HW inventory is getting stuck at querying select * from Win32_ServerFeature  

    in event viewer i found the below events:
