Can we query Tabular SSAS cube using MDX query ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I built a Tabular ssas model and then deployed it on ssas instance on my machine but when I tried to query it using a MDX query window I got the below error.

    My sql version 2014

    Executing the query ...
Error: Either the user, xxxxx does not have permission to access the referenced mining model, Model, or the object does not exist.

Hence want to know if we can   query Tabular SSAS cube using MDX query ?

  • Yes you can use MDX against tabular models (this is what Excel pivot tables do) either you made a mistake in your syntax or you don't have permission to access that cube.

Note that the model/cube name is different to the database name and by default tabular models have a "cube" name of "Model" (unless the developer changed the name)

So your MDX query would usually be structured something like:

    SELECT
    ... on columns
    ... on rows
    FROM [Model]
