Project Server MS project Custom Fields sync RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I want to ask if I create a custom field in Project Server, will the MS Project client pick this up when opening the project? or vice versa? if a custom field is created locally, upon publishing, is this created in project server? I am required to create a new task type where I will then based on this value look for tasks. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and help

    Regards,

  • There are two ways to define custom fields in Project Server. At the Enterprise level or project specific. Project Server Enterprise Custom Fields are made available to all project schedules. Generally these are defined by the PMO or system administrators. You can also have project specific local custom fields which are found under the Project tab (Project>Custom Fields) Project speciufic custom fields are only for the current project and will not be available to other projects. With sufficient access an administrator can however promote a local custom field to become an enterprise custom field.

The value in an enterprise custom field is consistency, structure and the ability to report of this information acrross multiple projects. Local custom fields, as the name suggests, are specific to that individual project.
