IE 11 - The webpage you are viewing is trying to close the tab. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I work for a software development company.  Our clients access our solution via a secured website.  After installing IE11, several of our clients have complained about receiving a pop up message that states: "The webpage you are viewing is trying to close the tab.  Do you want to close this tab?".  We found that having users Reset their Internet Explorer settings resolves this issue, but we don't want to have thousands of users have to reset their IE settings.

Is there a way we can prevent this from happening to our clients?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • Hi,

yes, craft and test your software to the default IE security settings. (security tab of Internet Options>click "Reset all zones to default".

To find out which IE security zone your software is being mapped to select the File>Properties menu from IE, (expected internet or intranet zones)...

That message is caused by a window.close statement.... f12>Debug tab, search for .close() and place breakpoints to examine the code.... luckily your a software development company and know what you are doing...

You would be better opening a support ticket with MS to allow an engineer to RAS into a client to examine the situation.

For website developer questions about html, css and scripting post to the IE forums at http://stackoverflow.com. If possible include with your questions a link to your website or a mashup that shows the issue.
