Protecting primary DPM Server with multiple Protection groups RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we like to protect our primary DPM Server with a secondary DPM Server. The secondary DPM server should protect the primary server with two protection groups. We can not select the dpm Database in the second protection group, but it is recommanded. If we protect the main DPM Database with the first protection group and with the second protection group only our Hyper V data,  is this a supported architecture?

    Best regards

    Stefan

  • Hi,

When we select "protected Servers" the wizard reminds us to protect also the dpm databases on the primary Server. But we can not select the dpm database on the second job a second time.

If you already have the Primary DPMDB protected in the first PG, then you can simply ignore the popup in the second PG.  As long as you have it protected, then you are good.

  • Hi,

Data sources on a Primary DPM server being protecting locally cannot be added to secondary protection.  This is simply because no more than one DPM server can protect a Server.  Since Primary is already protecting the DPMDB on the DPM server itself, the secondary cannot protect any local data sources on that DPM server.  So if you want to protect Primary DPM DB with a secondary DPM server, do it directly using SQL protection.

  • Hi,

our question is how to protect the primary Server with more than one protection group. Here is the example:

primary DPM server with a local DPM Database protects our Exchange and File data sources.

First job on the secondary dpm server should backup the DPM sql database and the exchange protection group to disk and tape library 1. The second job shoult protect the file protection goups to disk and tape library 2. When we select "protected Servers" the wizard reminds us to protect also the dpm databases on the primary Server. But we can not select the dpm database on the second job a second time.
