Registry cleaner and Windows Defender RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to reinstall Windows Defender on my Vista Enterprise machine but not having any luck. It seems to think the program is still there, it is not. From talking to a few techs they all agree it is something in my registry. I do not know what to look for so I wanted to use a program to clean my registry for me. Any ideas what is safe to use. I have heard C Cleaner is good.

Windows Defender comes with all Vista operating system. It lives and dies with the system.
It can NOT be uninstalled, nor can it be reinstalled.

My method to re-start Windows Defender is based on Home Premium....
Start button > in the search box, type  Services > press Enter key > scroll to find Windows Defender, click it > ....
under Status heading, it should say ......... Started
under Startup Type, it should say ............ Automatic
If it does not say that, Right click at Windows Defender > click Properties >
at Startup Type, click the pointer at far right and select Automatic
    at Service Status, click Start
    click OK when done.

My word of advice only. Do not use any registry cleaner.

this is not possible because Windows Defender is already part of Windows Vista.
