  •

When manually installing Windows Updates on our server we get the following error message:

Windows Update Standalone Installer - Installer encountered an error 0x80004002 - No such interface supported.

The following is also found in the windowsupdate.log

  • Hi,

This error maybe related with the corrupted servicing component. Please refer to the following steps to resolve this issue:

    1. Performing SFC scan.

    2. Using CHKSUR tool.

    3. If the above two solutions does not work, you could refer to the following workaround:

1). Stop Windows update Service and Background Intelligence transfer Service.

2). Following DLL files have to be replaced from working server.

    C:\windows\System32

    wuapi.dll

    wuapp.exe

    wuauclt.exe

    wuaueng.dll

    wucltux.dll

    wudriver.dll

    wups.dll

    wups2.dll

    wuwebv.dll

3). Following Dll mui files also

    C:\windows\System32\en-US

    Wucltux.dll.mui

    Wuaueng.dll.mui

    re-register the dll's:

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll

    resvr32 wuaueng.dll

    resvr32 wucltux.dll

    regsvr32 wudriver.dll

    regsvr32 wups.dll

    regsvr32 wups2.dll

    regsvr32 wuwebv.dll

4). Start BITs service and then start Windows Update Service.
