windows7 64 bit windows could not start the event log RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running windows 7 64 bit and get the following error.

Windows could not start the windows event viewer log service on local computer. Then when I try to start the service I get this error:  Error 4201: the instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider.

I am trying to get into Event Viewer as my Office has issues and Word won't start, I get a bootstrap error. HELP I followed all suggestions at this site: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/44479c49-55e6-4bd7-b25e-3f2a6497306e and nothing has helped.

  • Hi,

What's the issue with your Office? What's the error message?

Refer this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 to Clean Boot your computer, then open the Event Viewer, does it work?

If it still doesn't work, try recreat the log file. Locate C:\Windows32\winevt\logs\System.evtx , rename the System.evtx to System.bak. Then restart Windows event log service check if it works.

Additionally, for Office issue, I recommend you ask in Office forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officeitpro
