Cannot run reports from SCCM 2012 SP1 Remote Console RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a Windows 8 OS that I have installed the SCCM console on and cannot run any reports, everything else runs fine, if I right click and select run, nothing happens. I can run them from the server with no problem so cannot figure out why they won't run from the console on my desktop. Does anyone have an suggestions on how to get this working?

    Thanks,

    Gavin

  • Just tried on one of my Win 8 test machines and have the same problem, everything runs fine except the reports. Where would I report this?

Just tried it on a Win 8 machine too and did not see this issue. Have you already had a look at smsadminui.log?

  • I'd just run them from Internet Explorer. Does that work on the Win 8 box?

  • Yes it does, only in IE. For some reason it will not run in Chrome which is my default.

  • If you change your default from Chrome to IE, do they run from the console then?

Is Chrome even Win8 compatible (I thought there were some known issues but could be wrong)?

  • They still don't run, everything else will work, I can edit and create reports just can't run. I have been using Chrome from the initial install and have not had any issues running the browser. I guess I will have to use IE for now until I can figure out why it does not run.

  • Have you tried installing the console on another Win8 system and accessing reports from there? This could be a bug with the console on Win8 systems. If so, you can/should report it to CSS.

This was the problem with editing the reports, as soon as I set it as the default I was able to edit.

  • Probably need to call CSS. It's a free call if it's a bug.

  • Here's a KB on contacting support: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295539

As John notes, if you report an issue and it turns out to be a bug, they typically refund your money for the call. Also note the calls are on a per-incident basis so its just a flat fee and you not charged by the hour.

  • I managed to get it working. For some reason the ReportViewer 2010 SP1 had not been installed. I had to run ReportViewer.exe located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin to get it to work.

Thanks Torsten, the log file helped me determine where the problem was.

  • Hi,

I bumped into the problem like you explained this morning. I tried to run the ReportViewer.exe and that prompt me an error at the end of the installation. Then I tried reinstall the console using the files extracted from the iso, it is working after that. The report can be run from the console now.

Previously, I ran the installation from AdminConsole.msi copied out from the iso (How about you?). I guess this silly error won't be happened if we execute the installation directly from the iso.

    Thanks,
    Hau

  • Yes this was my fix too.

Reports ran OK on the server but not on remote console. No errors on remote console SP1, just would not run. I ran the ReportViewer.exe and now it all works.

    Thanks

  • Just noticed the same issues this morning. I upgraded to SP1 last week. Ran the reportviewer.exe and all is working from my remote consoles as well. Thanks.

  • Thanks Gavin, I was facing same issue (Can not run reports from SCCM 2012 R2 Console) with SCCM 2012 R2, after installing ReportViewer.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin\I386 and it start working without any issue.

FYI it is generally recommend to access report via the web interface than via the console.
