Shell background problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

I am developing an application on Windows 7 Professional SP1.

I have replaced in the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell my executable to explorer.exe so that my executable start automatically and in foreground.

Currently, during pages loading, it is displayed a black screen but I would need to display a custom image.

Someone knows if there are a registry key or a setting that would allow me to change the shell background?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Default vaule under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell explorer.exe, it is the default Windows Shell, launch Windows user interface, if the value is gone and the custom shell you put under the registry entry doesn't work, it will display a black screen.

I don't have my custom shell, so I put a notpad.exe as example, after logon, the screen is displayed like this, as expected:

so, if your custom shell doesn't work. first I would suggest you check whether the application you developped is OK, manually launch it and see if is executable.
