  • Hi alain bernheim,

Is the "tool bar" you mentioned the Taskbar which contains the Start button?

If so, the desktop icons can be easily pinned to the Taskbar by dragging them on to the Taskbar. For more information, please refer to Pin.

Also, you can refer to this knowledge base (KB) article to enable the Quick Launch bar in Windows 7: Guided Help: Enable the Quick Launch bar in Windows 7.

Regarding the shortcut for a file you mentioned, you can simply right click on the pinned program icon and then the most or frequently used file will be listed. You can quick access the file then. For more information, please refer to Jump Lists.

    Regards,

    Linda

  • Hi
Do you mean what used to be called quicklaunch. If so you right click hold on the shortcut and drag the item to the task bar and it will say pin shorcut here. Just release the right button and it will be there.
If you do the same with a file and the file has an ascociation say it is a txt file then when you drag it to the task bar it will place a shortcut to the ascociated program such as notepad in the taskbar. If you right click this you will see an option to open the txt file in the pop up menu. so effectively you have got a short cut to the file.
Hope this expalins how it works.
    all the best

  • Hi Linda,

many thanks for your answer. If I understand correctly what you wrote, I had already found that out.
However... in previous Windows (XP, Vista), it was possible to put (pin) a shortcut for a file on the Taskbar.
Is it so that now in Window 7, what was possible in one click takes now 2 clicks: one for the program, and another one for the file ?
If so, I don't think it is an improvement

  • Hi alain,

The feature you mentioned is "Quick Launch Bar". We can drag the program file to the Quick Launch Bar to access it quickly. As mentioned in the previous post, we can enable Quick Launch Bar in Windows 7 by referring to this knowledge base (KB) article: Guided Help: Enable the Quick Launch bar in Windows 7.

    Regards,
