block files by extension? RRS feed

  • Question

Can SteadyState do anything that can't be configured in windows already?  I need to allow a group of developers to create/edit/delete files on the system, and block user access to some--but not all--of the files created.  More specifically, source code will be available to the developers and only executables should be accessed by the users.  Source has to be hidden or denied access, but does have to be on the system.  I can't just set permissions on the files because they may be deleted and recreated at any time.  Ideally, I need to block files by file name extension to the user group.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for posting here!

Unfortunately, we cannot block files by extension within SteadyState. We may still need to configure security permissions to the files or folders. How about giving Full Control permission to the developers, and denying other users' access to the source code. I also recommend making a copy of the executable files, and then give the read permission to other users.

    Best Regards,
