Unable to remove server role

Question
-
Hi all
I recently setup the Windows Search Service role on my 2008 r2 file server, however, during the installation, it failed and "trusted installer.exe" was stuck using 100% cpu. The server was like this for 2 hours, so closed the installer window.
Since then, Windows search service is showing as installed under server manager, but is not actually installed. System services is showing "wsearch" not available.
When trying to remove it I get
Attempt to un-install windows search service failed with error code 0x80070001. Incorrect function.
CBS.log shows:

Has the update readiness tool been run without error?

Then check the
