Error message when uploading doc RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm a new admin for a document library that was created at work, and users as well as myself have been experiencing an issue.  This issue is:

I upload a document, then I'm taken to the edit screen, and when I hit OK I get an error message that says:

"This file (filename) has been modified by (username)(timestamp)

It then takes me back to the main page of the library, where the upload was successful but whatever data I had entered is lost.

  • Hi, doubledizzle,

Could you find more relevant error message from 12 hive in SharePoint 2007 Server? you can post here.

There is an article talking about this similar issue, you can check.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your post . Is the issue happening with just one document library... is the upload to other document library works fine? As Daniel mentioned can you enhance the ULS logs to verbose and   let us know the error message you see.

  • Thanks, Daniel.

Manas - I have to be honest, I'm new at SharePoint and only administer the site.  I'm not sure what you mean by enhance ULS logs to verbose (I'm assuming this is a feature for SP '10?  I'm on "07), but it is occuring with the one document library that was set up.

I was not able to resolve the issue.  Is there any other details I can provide that would help you and other understand the problem better?

  • Thank you for the update . You can enhance ULS logs to verbose by following steps below

    1. Browse to Central Admin > Operations > Diagnostics Logging
    2. Open the path mentioned in trace log in Windows Explorer and sort by date modified
    3. Under Select a category, choose "Fields" and choose Information and Verbose from next two drop downs and click OK
    4. Now open services.msc console and restart Windows SharePoint Services tracing file (this will create a new log file)
    5. Browse to site and reproduce (re-create) the issue and get the error message
    6. Restart the Windows SharePoint tracing service again (this will create a new log file and stop writing in the current one)
    8. Copy the log file from the path (should be 2nd most recent file)
    9. from a command prompt navigate to c:\program files \common files \microsoft shared \web server extensions\12\bin  and type stsadm-o setlogginglevel -default.

Please post the error messages that you see on the log file.

Also can you check the behaviour via uploading through explorer view to see if the issue reproduces
