Some Clarifications regarding FOPE RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, we are currently in the process of deploying Exchange Server 2010 (on premise). Currently we are configuring anti-spam protection for end users using Forefront protection for exchange (not online). We are having some issues with excessive spam using this so our vendor suggested that we go with Forefront Online protection for exchange, i have a few queries/clarifications regarding this:

    1) Can FOPE be used with On Premise Exchange deployments (vs Exchange Online)?

    2) We have 300 licenses for FOPE under our Enterprise Agreement, does this mean 300 users will be protected by FOPE? How does FOPE keep track of that?

    3) I read in FOPE documentation that Edge Server Role is not required for on premise if you are using FOPE, is this true?

    4) Does FOPE integrate with Forefront Protection for Exchange? Do we need to use both?

    5) When we go to activate FOPE under our EA licensing interface, Exchange Server 2010 is not in the list of Mail Servers, is Exchange Server 2010 supported by FOPE?

  • Hi,

FOPE works well with both On Premise and Cloud mail services

Licensing is generally per user, since one user can have multiple email addresses.

You will need a server with the Edge server role installed, this handles the mail from the internet.  Even though you are using FOPE to filter your email, FOPE will still need that Edge server to accept mail.

FOPE and FPE complement each other:

Exchange 2010 is fully supported by FOPE
