Hi,
I would like to first know that what version of your Office Outlook. If it is Office 2007, you may wish to use the following method.
• Use the following settings for your internet email account in Outlook 2007:
Open Outlook 2007 click on Tools > Account Settings > double click on the problem email account > click on More Settings > Advanced
Ensure the SMTP Port number is set as 587 for the Outgoing Server and encryption as TLS
Ensure to check the My Outgoing Server requires Authentication option under the Outgoing Server tab in More SettingsIn outlook 2010
1 Start Outlook.
2 On the Files menu, click Info.
3 Click Account Settings, and then select Account Settings from the list.
4 Click to select the target POP3 account, and then click Change.
5 Click More Settings.
6 Click the Advanced tab.
7 Gradually increase the server time-out setting until the issue is resolved.Regards,

I am Marcus1953
I have the same message as above. ATT.YAHOO is my Internet provider. 0x80042109 Outlook could not connect to your outgoing e-mail server.
I had an ATT person in chat for over two hours and they were not able to solve the issue. According to ATT, the POP3 Server port should be 995 and SMTP should be 465. The encryption method should be SSL. We tried everything we thought possible. I reloaded this particular machine from scratch and re-installed Outlook. The reload was due to continuous BSODs. HELP

I am having the same problem as Marcus 1953. According to ATT, my settings are all correct (same as those above). Have increased the timeout to the maximum, but still can neither send nor receive in Outlook. This started yesterday. I've used Oulook for over a year without problems. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. ATT's only suggestion was that their do the research for a fee.

Thank you very much for that important piece of information, Harry.
My Outlook had been working fine, but when I switched to U-Verse, for some reason my incoming email was fine, but it was not sending anything out.
I tried your suggestion of changing the port number to 587 because it was set to 20 and what do you know?
. . . It worked like a charm!
P.S. However, the encryption type of TLS DID NOT work, so I had to leave it set to NONE.- Edited by Earth Keeper Wednesday, August 1, 2012 10:59 AM expand
