Windows 7 X64 pro hangs on shutdown

Question
-
Hello everyone,
Long time reader, first time poster. I'm running into an issue with a Windows 7 Pro x64 PC where when you choose "shutdown" and the PC just hangs until a hard reboot. The issue was first brought up about 3 weeks ago. I've not had a chance to get look into the EV logs yet, but will soon as the PC is free. Has anyone else ran into this issue? If I'm missing something or need to give more information please let me know.
Thank you very much!

I had no success with the clean boot because Windows locked up and I had to restart the explorer.exe process to bring it back. I think I have found that the issue is due to folder redirection. This is the only user that has folder redirection set up, even though it's not being used and is having the rebooting issue. I'll disabling FR and force updating group policy and hopefully that will fix the issue. Thank you all for your help.

It is a shame that you have not described your problem completely. No redirection is mentioned in your original question/description.
It is useful to dscribe what you did 3w ago.
Problem with folder redirection is that when you configure it wrongly, the you are unable to recover local profiles. But this is another story.

1. Run in elevated
shutdown -s -f -t 0
2. Go to Safe Mode, shutdown from GUI. Look into Event logs.
3. Try clean boot and by the same steps go to shutdown.
4. What ca you see in Device Manager.
5. Check consistency witg sfc /scannow (do log diagnostics.)

Hi,
For current scenario, I suggest to execute a clean boot to see if can fix shutdown problem, some third-part software may influence shutdown process.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
Then, update driver from manufacturer website, meanwhile, check update, if there are some updates for system, install them.
In addition, since this condition occurred recently, system restore is worth considering.
Best regards,
Teemo Tang
