Disable Antivirus for OCS R2 servers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello
Anyone know if there is guidelines for antivirus on OCS R2 installations.
Is there any processes and folders on the servers that shall be excluded for Antivirus scan?
I figure some of the RealTime processes (e.g AVMCU.EXE) could be affected by the antivirus software and cause bad performance.
What about the fileshare and SQL?

Have tried to browse the web but didn't find any MS documentation about this.

  • Unfortunatley there is no clear guidance on this topic.  Since there is real-time media, most say do not install AV.  Microsoft does make a Forefront product for OCS:

    http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/serversecurity/ocs/en/us/default.aspx

As far as SQL goes, use the best practice guidance for SQL servers for exclusions.

Some other post on the subject:

  • Hi, Markus,

In addition, I provide kb943620 (Folders to exclude when you perform a file-level antivirus scan on a server operating system) for reference.

       Hope helpful.

  • I know you have OCS, but in the Lync Security Guide, it does mention AV exclusions:

  • Thanks for the the effort and for the information.
I also noticed there are clear information about this for LYNC but OCS is still missing.

  • Hi, Markus,

Anti-Virus Scanning Exclusions is specified clearly in LYNC but not in OCS. Actually, I haven’t found the detailed info about OCS till now. So hope you can refer to LYNC first and have a try.

Moreover, you can refer to Forefront Security for Office Communications Server User Guide.
