Cannot Delete VHD Files RRS feed

  • Question

  • I cannot delete a VHD file stored in a CSV. I converted the VHD to a VHDX. Then I try to delete and I get an error "You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file." I have tried taking ownership, but am unable to. I am unable to see the security permissions on it. If I try Get-ACL on that file I get the errors "Access is denied" and "Cannot find path because it does not exist."

Some background: This VM was initially created in SCVMM. We have since gotten rid of SCVMM. I then converted the VHD to VHDX and made the VHDX the hard drive in Failover Cluster Manager, so the VM does not need the VHD file. I have moved the VM storage to another CSV. The VHD stayed in the same spot and I still cannot delete it. Thanks.
