Work Hours Calculation - ERROR RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I'm having difficulty with the Work Hours Calculation in Project. It seems that when the number of hours within a subtask group exceeds 1000 hours, the display returns 1 hour. Whilst the Project Statistics for cost are correct, the number of hours is wrong! Has anyone seen this error before and can help?

I would post piccy but Microsoft wont allow that yet.

  • Hi,

We would need more information about this unexpected behavior. First of all, which Project version are you using? Is it upgraded to the latest Service Pack?

Can you detail the steps to reproduce the error? Or post an image? Can you reproduce this issue on another project?

With Project 2010 SP2, I created 4 sub tasks under a summary task, the work being more than 1000 hours and I can see no bugs.

Please elaborate and we'll try to help you. In case you're allowed to, you can send me your file to guillaumeDOTrouyreATgcosiDOTcom (replace caps).

    Hope this helps,

  • Thanks for the reply Guillaume,

The Project version in question is 2007 SP3.

The issue occurs on every project that I am currently handling so it is causing me some troubles at the moment. I have even tried using the example you gave and it still does not work correctly.

Unfortunately until my account is approved I cannot post pictures however the following is the equivalent to your project above:

    Project 1 67 days Mon 15/12/14 Tue 17/03/15 1 hrs
    Summary 67 days Mon 15/12/14 Tue 17/03/15 1 hrs
    A 50 days Mon 15/12/14 Fri 20/02/15 400 hrs A
    B 67 days Mon 15/12/14 Tue 17/03/15 536 hrs B
    C 30 days Mon 15/12/14 Fri 23/01/15 240 hrs C
    D 10 days Mon 15/12/14 Fri 26/12/14 80 hrs D

    Many thanks,

    Jon

  • Jon,

My guess is that one of two things is at play. Check to insure your have calculation set to automatic. If you do but the work at summary level doesn't add up, then your file is probably corrupt. Try saving as XML and then re-open in Project. Note, you will lose any custom formatting using this process.

  • Hi Jon,

In addition to the excellent advice provided by John, if the XML export doesn't work, I'd try to repair MS Project from the control panel, and in case this doesn't work neither, to reinstall from scratch the application.

    Hope this helps,
