Windows 7 - Files Access Rights RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Support,

There have been a few instances where we are not able to access the files located in the network drive and got the following message "when trying to open the file.i also tried to change the file owners to administrator" but still does not work.

But if I login as administrator in the server, copy and paste to a another file in the same directory.  I can open the new file without any problem but not the old original one. Please help.

    Thank you

  • It looks like the old files have retained their permissions and are not inheriting new permissions from the parent folder.

To fix this, go to the location of the shared folder (target of network drive). Go to it's properties and then the Security tab. Click on Advanced. Click on the Change Permissions button below. Check the "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object".

Please revert back here if this does not resolve your issue. Hope it helps!
