"Hiding" users from Address Book RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I'm trying to hide  several Lync-enabled service accounts from Lync Address book. I have reviewed and followed the following links and articles, however still can't get it to work (while searching for a user in Lync it still appears)
    https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/jcalev/2012/06/07/partitioning-lync-address-book-using-msrtcsip-groupingid/
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/11/2014/10/06/lync-server-2013-guidance-series-can-i-partition-global-address-list/

Articles talk about GUIDs however none of them specifies which one should I be using. I tried several, including the same one as in the article.

We're running Lync Server 2010 with the latest updates and Lync 2010, Skype for Business 2013/2016 as a client.

Also tried to isolate the account using the following approach and this also didn't work.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Vick Vega,

If you don't need those users also in the GAL you could run this command on the exchange console for the users

    Set-Mailbox -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true -Identity $mailbox

It will hide them also from Lync Address Book

    Regards

    Simon

  • Thanks Simon,
    I'll test it today.
However I would prefer to limit the "hiding" to Lync only, is that possible?

    Thank you.

  • Hi vick,

You can use absconfig.exe tool available in the Lync 2013 Resource Kit
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=36821&wa=wsignin1.0

To hide specific types of users from the Lync address book, here is a guide:
