Disable media storage devices

    Question

  • We have a scenario where the users connect to VDI for working and that the removable device group policy has been enforced to prevent users from using storage devices, especially media devices. This policy is in effect in the thin client/physical PC and that the devices are not accessible in the physical PC. However, the devices are accessible from the VDI.

Does that mean the same policy needs to be enforced for VDIs as well? Or is this a bug?

VMware View Client is being used for accessing VDIs.

  • Did you apply it on computer level or user level? I don't quite understand "the devices are accessible from the VDI.", my understanding is you should not able to connect to removable storage.

Any specific configuration in your env?

  • Aravindhan,

The policy has been applied at the user level, for all users in the domain.

It's a VDI, thin client architecture.
