DPM 2007 and SQL 2008 R2 SP2 support RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can't find a definitive answer and I'm fairly confident it isn't but... Is SQL 2008 R2 SP2 supported on DPM 2007? We've just upgraded a SQL 2008 R2 server to SP2 and suddenly we cannot protect the databases; they don't even appear as an option to protect.

    Cheers

  • Hi,

SQL Server 2008 R2 itself is not officially supported in DPM 2007.

But as you noted it did seem to protect it up to the point that SQL 2008 R2 SP2 was installed.

Check to make sure the SQL Writer service is running on the SQL Server.

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. Had a look at the server and the SQL Writer was missing - i guess it was 'removed' in the SP1 to SP2 update. i extracted the SQL Writer msi from the 2008 SP2 exe and installed it on the SQL 2008 R2 SP2 server and DPM 2007 can now see and protect the databases which is great news.

We must have overlooked the support levels with 2007 but its good to see that DPM2007 can still protect them. i guess we better crack on with our migration to DPM2012!

    Thanks for your assistance.
