Timesheet Settings and Defaults > Timesheet Policies > Allow top-level time reporting -- Unchecked, still allows Summary level task booking. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We are implementing Project Server 2010. We want to restrict users to book time against Summary Tasks. So, we have "unchecked" the following setting in PWA "Timesheet Settings and Defaults > Timesheet Policies > Allow top-level time reporting" . But, we found that the system is still accepting the time on Summary tasks.

Does this field work in conjunction with any other field?

How to stop resources entering/book time against summary tasks in timesheets. We are using SEM (Single Entry Mode).

    Please suggest.

  • In most cases, resources should not be assigned to summary tasks.  The only
exception that I am aware of is when implementing the TFS integration.

  • Andrew,

    Thank you for quick reply.

Yes we did not assign resources to Summary Tasks, but because the Summary Task shows in Timesheets, users tend to book time to the Summary Task.

    Please suggest.

  • Summary tasks should not be appearing in TS if you have not made any resource assignment to them

  • Christophe,

Thank you, yes, Summary Tasks are not appearing if there are no assignments to them.Thank you.

But, I have a follow up question...We are migrating from Project Server 2003 to 2010 directly, and in 2003 TS, we used to see Summary Tasks also (even if there are no assignments to them)...so, Is there a way to show Summary Tasks in 2010 TS also even if there are no assignments to them? The reason is; there may be tasks with same name under different phases of the project, so, unless we show the hierarchy, there will be confusion to TS user on which phase this particular task belongs to.

In 2010, There is a way to group TS by Project, but, when I do it, tasks are not in order they appear in Project Pro...and also Project and Task are in two different columns. Is there a way to show both Project and Task in on column as in 2003?

    Please suggest.
