Can I do in place upgrade of Server 2012R2 to Server 2019 for my WDS and WSUS servers? Will there be any issues? RRS feed

  • Just trying to get a pulse to see if anyone has done in place 2012R2 upgrade to 2019 with their MDT servers.  Thanks.

  • Are you wondering if it'll affect MDT or are you asking if you can upgrade from 2012R2 to 2019?

    If you're wondering how MDT will be affected, then it won't MDT doesn't care. It's basically just a file share and could run off of a Windows 10 computer if you wanted it to.

    Haha.  Yes I meant in regards to MDT.  I'd consider MDT a flaky product to some degree so I thought maybe upgrading to 2019 might make it angry.  Awesome to know MDT doesn't care about such things!  Thank you!

  • Just wanted to add to add, I have just done this. MDT didn't care but upgrading to server 2019 from server 2012R2 killed the WDS role. In the WDS console there was a message saying the WDS configuration was corrupt. Needed to be removed and added again, and then it was all good
