No access to license key RRS feed

  • Hi,

    A customer of ours are faced with “The trial period for this product has expired”
    on all Sharepoint sites including pages in CA.

    • The CA reports OK on license and offers no possibility to enter/reenter a license key.
    • Environment is a single node with all services running on one server
    • System is patched with sp 1 and October CU.

    Environment was originally installed on trial licenses but later upgraded with valid Enterprise license keys.

    Observations:

    • The customer installed Antivirus (Symantec) on the server Friday. And Monday, the users where presented with the error
    • The ULS reports:
      “DelegateControl: Exception thrown while adding control 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.SearchBoxEx': Thread was being aborted” on every hit

    Actions taken:

    • Uninstalled
      Antivirus and run psconfig in different ways
      Assigned all app pool accounts to local administrators group

    Assumptions:

    • The AV has blocked access to  license key reading

    From this assumption we need help on restoring access to reading license key.

Answers

  • It turned out that someone or something (AV) had cleared the system variable “Path”.

    Once this variable was restored with “%SYSTEM%” etc and equivalent pointers the problem was resolved.
