Existing 2007 clients discovered in SCCM 2012 not displaying (importing) MAC Address information. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am currently migrating  a SCCM 2007 environment to SCCM 2012.  All SCCM 2007 clients have been discovered using system discovery.  Currently, non client devices (client devices having the SCCM 2007 client and have not been upgraded yet) are not displaying MAC address information.  The situation that I have that this is causing an issue is when a device is going to be imaged via PXE and the device is recognized as not being in the database  and not serviced (smspxe.log) .  This appears to be tied to clients that are not “assigned” a site code in the collections.  Could this be tied to boundary group assignment?

  • The MAC is sent in a heartbeat and hardware inventory and both require the client to be installed.

  • Any know way to reimport the MAC addresses?   Obviously the machine is already in 2012, so I do not think a reimport from devices is going to work unless I delete the current record.

  • Migration jobs do not migrate inventory data. The only way to get the MAC "imported" is by installing the CM12 client.

  • Just to reiterate, CM2007 client agents are not supported in 2012. Although you can see them in the console and they do *try* to communicate, it doesn't really work. You need to deploy the 2012 client agent to the systems for them to be truly managed.
