SCCM 2012 R2 Task Sequence does not start when set to download content locally before starting Task Sequence RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi All,

Current environment is SCCM 2012 R2.Noticed an odd behaviour with task Sequences recently.Set up a task sequence and set to download content locally before starting Task Sequence.the machine will download the contents into the ccmcache but will have these logged in the execmgr.logs

ContentProgressEx invalid request GUID handle execmgr 10/02/2014 3:57:18 PM 3304 (0x0CE8)

Tested the same Task Sequence and changed it to Download locally as needed on a different machine and it installs fine.In the meantime, the original machine that had the above error starts to install as it had received the policy update.

This issues exists on a few of the task sequences we have that has it set to download content locally before starting Task Sequence.

Only seems to come about after the upgrade to R2.

Anyone had any similar experiences ?

    Cheers

  • Just to add, noticed that for example this package it is downloading.it comes out with the below in the execmgr.logs

but in the contenttransfermanager.log.there are no errors and like i said before,it does download the package.

  • Hi,

Does this error happen on all task sequences as long as download content locally before starting Task Sequence is selected? Or only this task sequence?

    Can you reproduce this error?

    Best Regards,

    Joyce Li

  • Hi Joyce,

Yes,it happens on all Task sequences that are set to download content locally before starting Task Sequence option is selected.

The Task sequence in question is not the only one.If we set change it to download locally as needed. It goes through well.

    The error is reproducable.

    Regards,

  • Hi,

i can confirm this behavior after an upgrade to R2 (ContentProgressEx invalid request GUID handle).

Changing the TS setting to download locally as needed "fixes" the problem.

  • Hi,

could you please enable client verbose, then upload these logs(ContentTransferManager.log, DataTransferService.log and Smsts.log)?

  • Hello, just to add another instance to this thread, I am seeing the exact same behavior in my environment, ConfigMgr 2012 R2.  Task sequence setup for "Download all content locally before starting task sequence".  I have the exact same symptoms and log entries as the OP.

  • I hope for a patch for this bug as soon as possible as this bug is making a workaround for another bug useless for Windows 7:

  • Which bug? This is a three year old thread for ConfigMgr 2012 R2 and not related to the issue in the thread you linked to.

  • Indeed. It is a 3 year old bug that is still present in version 1702. Any idea when they plan to fix this bug, Jason?

  • 1702 hasn't been supported for almost a year now so never. You need to update to a supported version of ConfigMgr CB (1710, 1802 and 1806 are the only currently supported builds).

I can't say I know for sure if this is fixed, but I'm pretty sure it is.

  • Hi Jason

I can safely say that this bug is not fixed. Trying on 1810 with ALL hotfixes installed. Some TS's work, others not a chance. Sadly, not the one with all of the required content in to support the many different options as required by my client.

I need this to work to precache content on sites with no DP's to support a third party product, this is causing me a MASSIVE headache.

If you could advise what the official status is from MS for this it would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • You'll need to open a case with Microsoft for that.
