Migration of IAG configuration to UAG RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

somewhere I have read that it is not possible to import a IAG configuration into UAG (because of the architectural changes from Perl to Ajax). However the configmgrutil.exe has the option to convert .egf (the IAG configuration file format) to xml (-tx). Unfortunately this did not work for a example configuration I have tried to convert. I get the error message: "ERROR: Failed to convert the egf to xml". The question now is wheter this feature does not work at all or if there is something I am missing.

    Best regards

    Thomas

  • Is this urgent?

During the UAG beta, I remember discussions about MS doing a migration guide - let me check...

    Cheers

  • Ok, NDA checked! ;)

MS are currently working on a migration document from IAG to UAG. I cannot reveal timeframes or details, but I am involved in tech review so can you let you know ASAP once it goes public.

    Cheers

  • I suspect this is just a document.   One still is going to build their UAG basically from scratch.   The guide may be able to help with things like if you are manually copying over customupdate file X from IAG, then instructing you on if it will work on UAG straight up, or needs the contents to be slightly manually modified in order to work on UAG.   For example, a custom WhlFiltAppWrapp from IAG needs some extra lines in it as the DataChange SAR's are now done per application type, and there is a new tag that configures this.

But much of the logic of re-organizing basic trunks into existing or new portal trunks, which templates to use to publish applications, etc must be done with some old fashioned smarts of the IAG/UAG admin built-in.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Agreed - 'old fashioned smarts' will play a big part ;)
