Actuals in future months using single entry mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good Morning,

We are using Project Server 2010 with timesheets and single entry mode.  Recently we have noticed that on some projects actuals are appearing in future months after the PM accepts timesheet line updates.  What is the cause of this and how do we prevent this from happening?

    Thank you

  • Hi Ibr,

It could be many reasons for this behaviour.

    • the task might have a constraint
    • the task might be set as a fixed duration task
    • the resource might have updated the % complete of the assignment
    • the gantt chart bar might have been moved by mistake in Project Pro
    • ...

You would need to know exactly what operations have been done on the task in Project Pro and how it has been built and configured, as well as how the resource has updated the task progress through the timesheet interface.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you for the help!  Can you please explain how a task constraint or a fixed duration task would cause the actuals to appear in the future months?  This will better help me understand how to prevent the issue from occurring in the future.

    Thank you again!

  • Hi Ibr,

You could refer to this excellent post that brings a lot of explanation of how a task is rescheduled based on constraints and parameters entered to update the task, and how the scheduling engine interpret users operations.

    Hope this helps.
