Is it okay to manage the old version of SCCM client with newer version of SCCM server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm considering to upgrade SCCM 2012 R2 to SCCM cb 1511.

My SCCM client version is "5.00.7958.1000" for now, and I wanna upgrade clients to "5.00.8325.1000" sooner or later.

There are plenty lot of clients so I guess it would take some time like a month or more.

During upgrading clients(a month or more), 2 versions of client "5.00.7958.1000" and "5.00.8325.1000" will be managed by SCCM cb 1511.

What I want to know is if there is any small problem to manage the old version(5.00.7958.1000) of SCCM client with newer version(1511) of SCCM server.

    Best Regards,

    Kim

  • We have a large client base; and are on CB 1602; about 1/3rd of our clients have yet to update from 2012 r1 to CM1602; and there are no issues.

OT/my opinion: there are many and varied reasons to go from 1511 to 1602 on your servers, and deploy 1602 client, not 1511 client.  You do first have to of course install 1511; but then a day or a few days later, update to 1602.  Don't wait on that...

  • There's no problem managing new and older client version. (mixed)

As Sherry mentionned, I would also recommend to update when possible. Eeach client version fixes bugs and problems so just make sure you upgrade the majority of your client when you're ready.
