Restore PWA to default settings. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to restore PWA to its default installation settings? I have it set up on a server and have been having issues with getting permissions correct and am getting to the point where I may just want to restore the default settings if this is possible.

The best way to do this would have been to use the Administrative Backup to backup the Project Server settings BEFORE you began configuring the system.  Then, if messed up, you could use the Administrative Restore feature to put them back to their default settings.  In your case, it sounds like this probably is not an option.

Are there certain options or settings with which you are struggling?  Let us know and perhaps we can tell you the default options or settings.

  • In addition to what Dale mentioned  just thinking loud another option could be using playbook to export the settings from a vanilla PWA instance and import them using playbook in your current environment, vanilla instance can be provisioned on a test server

  • The biggest issue I'm having right now is when i assign someone to the "Team Member" group they can't see any navigation items on the left side of the screen and therefore cannot navigate to the project site. As the admin, when I go the Project Center page in PWA, I see the project I created (Project B) and then I can click on its link to go to the Schedule page. I want Team Members to be able to do this as well (see the schedule) and I guess I don't understand why this isn't a default...regardless, the Schedule page also shows links for "Schedule", "Project Details", "Project Information", and "Project Site" then there is a separation line and links below that for "Projects", "Approvals", "Tasks", "Timesheet", "Issues and Risks", "Resources", "Status Reports", "Reports", and "Server Settings".

I would like anybody who is placed in the "Team Member" group to be able to at least see the links above the line (listed above) so they can navigate to the "Project Site". I suppose I could just copy and paste a link to our main intranet home page to the project site, but it seems rather silly that the default view from the Schedule page won't let me link Team Members there even though I can cut and paste the URL for the Project Site page into a browser window of a user I have added to this group...and they can view it just fine.

  • try this out, navigate to Server Settings >> Manage Group >> team members >> Select the User Name(Highlight) >> Select the category(Highlight) >> My Task >> Scroll down to Project Section >> and make sure these 4 check boxes are checked >>

Also make sure User is assigned on any of the task (to be safe - if included in build team will have read access) & project is published,

    • View Schedule in project Web App
    • View Project Site
    • View Project Summary in project Center
    • Open Project

Note: This may not be the ideal way, as there are several ways to do so but i am just trying to narrow down the issue here

  • 1) In 2013, there's an option to review individual permissions and identify what security is impacting them.

    2) You can always just delete PWA and reprovision a new one.

Andrew, at this point I am considering doing just that...is there any sort of reference I can use to do this correctly?

  • You mean, delete PWA?  From the Service App, you can simply delete it, then recreate it with new databases. Note if you recreate it with the same databases, it may pick up all of the same settings as before.
