Can I have multiple SQL server in SharePoint 2007 Farm ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 3 servers in a Farm(app server, web server, SQL server), my question is: can I add another SQL server into the Farm as content DB server ?

the configuration DB and Content DB still remains on the exsiting SQL server , just add another SQL server as content DB server.

I did a test; add a new content DB , using another SQL server , it works, I just want to confirm this is supported by Microsoft as I did not find document from MS for this.

    Thanks

  • Jason,

The word you quoted meant we can only use one database server for configuration database.

For content databases, we can store them in another database server, as we can specify the a new database server while adding a new content database:

  • Hi Stefan

but in the blow discussion, it says:

"A SharePoint farm can only at any single time connect to a single database server"

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/e99f66de-90e6-4a36-80ca-1b198e6876d2

can you direct me to a Microsoft Document Link about this ?

    Thanks

    Jason
