Basic User doesn't receive a background in Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently working on deploying Windows 7 across our campus. We have created a default user profile that appears to work fine so long as the user is either a local admin or a power user. The problem we run into is the accounts that will be logging in as a basic user. The background does not pull. They simply receive a black background. Most of the other settings seem to pull fine, just not the background. Is there anything specific to do to fix this? We tried a local GPO to set the background but that doesn't work either.

  • This is a known issue. When a user log on the first time, the Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WallPaper is not created. When the clients are applying policies, the registry key should be changed, but it does nothing because this key is not present. A workaround is manually add this key in Login script.
